Today, nearly 80 percent of the world's rough diamonds, 50 percent of all cut diamonds, and 40 percent of all polished diamonds pass through this single Belgian city. The Antwerp diamond district, a concentrated network of exchanges, cutting facilities, and trading houses spanning just a few city blocks, handles an estimated $50 billion in diamonds annually.
